What does it mean to make carnival from the ground up? How should it be documented? Join us for a panel discussion of the outdoor photography exhibit, Carnival From the Ground Up, a tribute to the people who make New Orleans’ carnival by hand and take carnival to the streets on foot.
Monogram Hunters Big Chief Tyrone “Pie” Stevenson, Chewbacchus Overlord Aryanna Gamble, and longtime Society of Sainte Anne member Stuart Auld talked with photographer Ryan Hodgson-Rigsbee and anthropologist Martha Radice about the creativity, community, and hard work behind their carnival practices. Gianna Chachere of The New Quorum moderated the discussion.
The exhibit of 70 photos is on display throughout carnival season on the fence outside the Jazz Museum, on Decatur Street (until February 14).
